2011 assessment...

Last year, I posted all the things I hoped to accomplish in 2011. I thought it would be fun to look back at them again and evaluate if I made any progress or not.

Below I am going to paste my original post. The goals I wrote are in italics and then I have underlined my assessment of whether or not I feel like I met them. I love looking back and seeing areas where I've grown personally and areas where much growth is still needed.

Last year's post:

1- Spend my time and energy on things with ETERNAL SIGNIFICANCE. This is going to basically determine all of my other goals for 2011.
*Reduce time on Facebook- PROGRESS! Took an entire month away from FB and since then I’ve had much less of a desire to frequently use it. And you know what else, I am happier!
*Spend time each day not just reading my Bible, but soaking it all in. I want to know MORE than just be able to quote scriptures...I want to understand and apply it.- PROGRESS! Plan to get even more intentional in 2012 about how I structure it.
*Be mentored by someone further along in their Christian walk than I am, and in turn, mentor someone that might need me, as well. PROGRESS! I am being mentored by an amazing woman of God, and am able to mentor others from time-to-time. I would still like to enter into a formal mentor relationship with someone this year.
*Commit more time to relationships that are worthwhile. Have more people over for dinner, spend more time actually TALKING on the phone or in person than texting or on facebook. Stopping and really being present in conversations with people that I come into contact with at church, or restaurants, or Wal-Mart. A LITTLE PROGRESS. We have definitely been more intentional about having people over and trying to establish new, deeper relationships.
*Learn to be OBEDIENT to what God is telling me. It's okay to be afraid, I think, but I need to be able to go, do, or say whatever it is that He is showing me. Will it be uncomfortable? Probably. Worthwhile? Yes! Christ didn't come so that I could be comfortable, He came so that people could be saved. Use me, Lord! DAY BY DAY I’m making progress on this one. Two steps forward, one step back it seems!

2- Live a healthier lifestyle.
*Physically- I have got to start exercising again. It is good for my body, and good for my mind. We are created to be God's temples and I have not been a good steward of that lately. I want to watch what I eat so that I can be healthy and feel good enough to do all that I am called to do.
- MUCH WORK LEFT TO BE DONE. I plan to tackle this one beginning on 1/1/12!

*Mentally- I plan to read good books. I have so many right now that I am reading that I can't decide which to read each night. This blog will be used often to post some of the insight I am gaining through these books. PROGRESS! I love reading, especially books that focus on my role as a believer, wife, and mother. And now with my new Kindle Fire, I can’t help but want to read constantly!

*Emotionally- as I mentioned before, I plan to focus on relationships that contribute to my growth and pay less attention to those that are superficial. I desire to have transparency with those I am friends with and I want to be able to be transparent with them as well.  A LITTLE PROGRESS.  I’ve learned a lot about friendship in the last year. I have made some mistakes that have led to growth. I have been shown forgiveness by several friends when I needed it, and I’ve learned the importance of offering grace to others through those that haven’t been able to give me the same. I want to continue learning to be a better friend and to establish strong relationships with friends grounded in God’s truth.

*Financially- resume my role in making sure our household stays on budget and fiscally frugal. PROGRESS! We have made huge progress in this area! By leading a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace group, we were reminded of important principles and have really gotten on track. So much fun to breeze through his ‘babysteps’ on our path to financial freedom!

3- Treasure these short years with my children.
    *Take more pictures
     *Video!
*Blog the day to day happenings so that I can share with family and look back on them later
*Keep up with my picture-a-day digital scrapbook
*Play more, work around the house less (at least when they are awake)

CHECK! I’m placing my order today for my Picture-a-day book and have done a pretty good job of capturing moments important in our lives through photos, videos and this blog.

4- Get Organized!
    *Monthly menus
*Weekly/Daily cleaning tasks so that we aren't overwhelmed all at once.
*Home Organization- get all the clutter into it's place and keep it there!
    *Resume couponing

PROGRESS, but have definitely had ups and downs. I have taken a break from couponing while I focus on getting our home ready to sell and getting us organized! By using good meal planning (plus our stockpile from when I couponed) we are doing well in the area of grocery savings.

Come back later for my list of goals for 2012.
Love y’all!

  1. Thank you for the inspiration of your goals and the honesty of where you stand with them, 365 days later.
My list is almost a mirror image of yours! (even though I really didn't write it down)

This weekend, my plan is to begin a written list, so that I can check in periodically, and be more intentional about fulfilling these important goals!

    Happy New Year!
